Born in 1982, Bread Basket Bakery grew into a thriving staple in Downtown Saratoga Springs over four decades.
In 2020, Ed and Lisa Mitzen, the founders of Business for Good™, purchased the bakery, committing to keep the same delicious recipes that made Bread Basket successful. In 2022, with high-demand for our custom cakes, Bread Basket Cake Shop opened in Saratoga Springs.
As Good businesses, only one thing changed: all profits from the Bakery and Cake Shop are donated to Business for Good to end food insecurity and hunger.
Jennifer McNeill
Jennifer has a passion for crafting unforgettable experiences, particularly in custom and wedding confections. Hailing from Johnson and Wales University, her expertise in European pastry is matched only by her exceptional organizational skills, earning her the title of “chaos coordinator” as she effortlessly manages all aspects of the Cake Shop.
Jennifer is excited to see her personal recipes come to life on Hattie’s Restaurants’ dessert menu and to lend her voice to the Cake Shop’s growth. She thrives on face-to-face interactions with clients, believing they foster trust and enable a more personalized touch to her creations. In addition to her professional pursuits, Jennifer is committed to community service and philanthropy, seeking opportunities to give back and add value to both her career and personal life.
Kathleen Stewart
Kathleen, Head Baker at Bread Basket Bakery, turned her childhood passion for baking into a fulfilling career with 36 years of bakery management experience. What truly fuels Kathleen’s enthusiasm for baking is the joy of making people happy through her creations. Now, at Bread Basket Bakery, she is excited about creating new bakery items and engaging with the community.
Shawn Ruhle
Shawn is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America with over a decade of experience in baking. Passionate about European pastry and naturally leavened breads, he brings his expertise to Bread Basket Bakery and Cake Shop in Saratoga as the Pastry Chef at the Bakery. Excited to collaborate with a talented team, Shawn aims to create innovative pastries and breads that captivate the community.
Sarah Fichtman
With a career that has spanned over 15 years in corporate and private event management, Sarah brings a passion for hospitality, extensive knowledge of the industry, and a deep love of our Capital Region community. She’s excited to contribute her skills at Bread Basket and create memorable events.
